The Falcons were entering their fifth City League game with their confidence high and were prepared for a good game against the Meme Team. The Meme Team have dominated most teams using their height, and had some players that towered over the Falcons players, but Freddie had a game plan to overcome that. The starting five for the Falcons was Dylan at point, Tyson at shooting guard, Jose at small forward, Robert at power forward, and Seth at center. The Falcons were missing several key players, but they were ready to get the job done.

The first quarter was probably the worst offensive effort for the Falcons so far this season. Jose nailed a three pointer for what would turn out to be South Valley’s only points, other than Tyson’s one made free throw. The Falcons went 1-16 from the field which is very embarrassing compared to Meme Teams 3-8 shots made. Meme Team definitely beat the Falcons in every category and dominated the first quarter. However, they only made three shots; one from deep and a couple easy points in the paint. The score was 4-7 with Meme Team up.

started and told them that if they don’t pick it up on both ends right now then Meme Team will walk away with the easiest win they had all year, and you can tell that got into the Falcons heads. With Alex on the court, the Falcons were ready for some small ball to counter Meme Teams height. Tyson got his confidence back and helped lead South Valley past Meme Teams three-point lead. He went three for six, which seems bad to some, but it was big in this low scoring first half. South Valley shot 6-15 which is bad, but still better than 1-16. The score at the half was 18-17 with South Valley ahead.

The third quarter was a battle with many lead changes. South Valley stuck with their small ball style for the third quarter and it wasn’t working out. With Meme Team winning the battle of the boards, the Falcons players were getting frustrated, it seemed like the Meme Team was going to take the lead and run away with it. However, the Falcons weren’t ready to give up just yet. They were playing hard, lock-down defense and their hustle was great, but they just couldn’t get many shots in. The Falcons shot 0-6 from the three-point line and only made 5-14 for the quarter. Meme Team wasn’t doing so hot offensively either, only going 4-16 from the field. The score at the end of the third was 28-26.

The fourth quarter was just a defensive quarter all together. Both teams were pushing to stop the ball and not let it get into the paint. Only 6 shots were made in the entire quarter. The Falcons shot 3-13, but two of the hoops were and-ones from Seth and Tyson and they both cashed in on the free-throw, which definitely helped the Falcons keep the lead. Meme Team had also shot 3-13 but didn’t get the chance to shoot free throws. The rest of the quarter the Falcons had good discipline and didn’t commit more than one foul. The final score was 36-32 Falcons. The win kept South Valleys win streak alive at 5-0.

After the game, coach Freddie had this to say:  “We always knew this was going to be a tough game because they have some good big men and they have some skill at the guard position.  However, the task was made tougher because we only had six players.  It may not show up in the stats, but in many ways Robert Sacauskas was the MVP today.  He was asked to play out of position all day because we had nobody else coming off the bench.  Our guards got in foul trouble and when Dylan fouled out, we were stuck with a lineup that featured three big men, which is not how we like to play.  The idea would normally be we fast break a lot against a bigger team, score before they can set their defense, but we simply did not have the manpower to do that today.  Still, our bigs did a great job controlling the boards, and our team rebounding was key in preventing them second chance opportunities.  We may have been short bodies, but we got the job done.  That is what good teams do, they find a way to win even on their “off” days.

Sorry to disappoint you, but among the missing was a statistician so the stats weren’t being tracked well for this game; we only have the scoring totals of the game. Tyson led the in scoring with 17 points and Seth dropped 11 of his own.
