If you don’t know what Magic the Gathering is, it’s a trading card game with its own lore and story behind the cards themselves. These cards are categorized into five colors, which are white, black, blue, red, and green (there’s also colorless which is pretty much grey).  The cards in these games all have a picture of some kind of creature, enchantment, artifact, instant and sorcery (magic and spells), and land (which are represent different environments).  Each of these cards has a certain amount of “hit points” (HP) and can perform a variety of functions, depending upon how it is used. There’s different ways to play with these cards and build decks with them but the most common format is a regular deck that consists of at least 60 cards. You can only have a maximum of four of the same exact card in a deck, except cards that are basic land because their is no limit to how many of those you can have. The way you win the game is you play your cards against your opponents and try to lower their “hit points.” There are many strategies to use to win the game, but basically you have to lower opponent’s (or opponents’ — games have been known to have up to 20 players) “hit points” to zero.  Everyone starts with 20 HP and then your points go up or down depending on how well you play your cards.

So, let’s talk about the cards.  People create their own cards all of the time, within certain parameters of the game — you can’t create a card that will always win and win you the game.  As an avid Magic the Gathering player, like most people, I buy card decks that other people have created and learn how to play these cards.  I will trade cards with my friends to build up decks of cards that I can use when I play….so I just grab a deck to play instead of spending hours figuring out what to use for one game.  I learn how to use these decks of cards well and compete against other decks.  Once you have enough experience, that is when you start creating your own cards.  I am now at a level where I am creating my own custom cards.

Leo, The King of Beasts is my seventh custom made Magic The Gathering card. It is a legendary creature that is based off of the Zodiac Spirit Leo, the Lion. Another thing is that the Zodiac Spirit Leo is the leader of the Zodiac Spirits because he’s supposedly the strongest and is based off the king of all beasts. The play style of this card is being able to have a big creature that is just as strong as the number of creatures you have and to take out other creatures that add up to his power and/or other big creatures.  Cards that will be best to play with Leo are:

Darien, King of Kjeldor (3 per deck with Leo)

  • Helps make Leo stronger by making more token creatures, which if you don’t have in your deck you can just add to your game.  It creates a number of these depending on how much damage you take.  Having more of these creatures helps you overwhelm your opponent with sheer numbers.

Captain of The Watch (3 per deck with Leo)

  • Helps make Leo stronger by making more token creatures while making certain other creatures you control bigger while giving them an extra ability

Healer of The Pride (4 per deck with Leo)

  • Helps Leo by making you gain HP whenever a creature enters your battlefield

Felidar Sovereign (2 per deck with Leo)

  • Helps Leo by helping you win the game if have 40 or more HP

Knight of The White Orchid (2 per deck with Leo)

  • Helps Leo by helping you get more land If your opponent controls more than you

Brimaz, King of Oreskos (3 per deck with leo)

  • Helps Leo by making more token creatures when Brimaz attacks so they attack with him; the same goes for when Brimaz blocks

Amaru, Hound of Konda (2 per deck with leo)

  • Helps Leo by having a strong creature so when Leo enters the field he is strong to begin with

Godsend (3 per deck with leo)

  • Helps make Leo stronger because when you attach this card to Leo it helps by removing creatures that block Leo or makes Leo’s blocking stronger

Ajani Caller of The Pride (3 per deck with leo)

  • Helps make Leo stronger, gain more abilities, and/or make a lot of cats (another kind of token creature)

Ajani Goldmane (3 per deck with leo)

  • Helps Leo by gaining you more HP, making your creatures stronger, and/or make a gigantic creature – a really large powerful token creature

True Conviction (3 per deck with leo)

  • Helps make Leo and all of your creatures stronger

Elspeth, Sun’s Champion (2 per deck with leo)

  • Helps make Leo stronger by making more token creatures, destroying bigger creatures, and/or increasing their strength

These cards that are played with Leo, The King of Beasts in this deck go well together because they will help with building a strong defense late game and will allow Leo to be a devastating card to play against, which will soon lead to your victory.
